the right way

A deadbolt is only as strong as the hole it was bored into and the plate it throws into. In Erin we install new deadbolts on doors that have never had one, replace worn units on doors that have, and set the strike so the bolt slides home without lifting or leaning on the door. Nearby, we also work in Brisbane, Cedar Valley, Coningsby and Hillsburgh.

The services below cover most of what a door in Erin can throw at you. Some are urgent, like a lockout or a snapped key. Others are planned, like upgrading to a high-security cylinder or setting up a master key system for a small building. Each one is explained in plain terms so you know what to expect.

Lock work makes brass shavings, sawdust and small parts that roll under furniture. In Erin homes we lay a drop sheet, catch what falls, and vacuum before we go. The door gets wiped down, the old keys are handed back or taken away as you prefer, and the only sign we were there is a lock that turns without complaint.

Shop rules

Honest advice about your locks.

  1. A look before a verdict. We inspect the door, frame and lock before suggesting anything. Diagnosing from the driveway is how people end up with parts they did not need.
  2. Two or three real choices. Where there are sensible alternatives we explain them side by side, including the option of doing less than you expected.
  3. The job finished properly. Tested, aligned, cleaned up and demonstrated. We do not consider a lock done until you have turned the key yourself.
  4. Open 24/7, same fees any hour. Call to discuss your business's keys.

How a visit goes

There is a way of doing this trade that reaches for the drill first. We do it the other way round.

    Step 1 of 5

    Call and describe the door

Describe the property, the hardware and what has changed, and the visit starts from what you have seen.

    On our way

Before touching the lock we ask for identification or another way to show you live or work there. It protects you as much as anyone.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 58 in 100 homes · older homes
  • About 58% of homes in Erin were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.Layers of paint build up on older doors and frames, and a lock that seemed to fail is sometimes a latch glued shut by the last coat. Part of the visit in an older area is freeing hardware, cleaning the edges and checking the door swings true.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 91% of homes in Erin (2021 Census).Where homes are mostly detached, patio and sliding doors deserve attention alongside the hinged ones. Auxiliary locks, pin locks and better latches for sliders are routine additions that a locksmith brings on the same visit as the front door work.

Short answers to common questions

An employee left and never returned their keys. Should we rekey?

It is the sensible step, and a lockout visit is a convenient moment for it. Rekeying keeps your existing cylinders and changes the pins so a new key operates them and the unreturned one does nothing. If your doors use interchangeable cores, swapping the core takes minutes. Bring every door that shared the old key onto the new one, count the fresh keys into named hands and start a register so the next departure is a line in a book rather than a call.

A garage door remote was on the ring. What happens with that?

The opener on the garage ceiling holds a memory of every remote paired to it, and it can be erased in one step so the lost remote is forgotten. The remotes still in the household are paired again afterwards, and a keypad on the outside of the garage gets a new code if you have one. The locksmith can do this during the visit, and it takes only a few minutes at the opener.

How do you decide whether to repair a gate lock or replace it?

The decision follows what the assessment actually finds rather than the age of the hardware alone. A cylinder that is only stiff or slightly worn is usually serviced and left in place, while one that is pitted, cracked or built to a grade unsuited to its exposure is replaced. The same logic applies to a closer or hinge: adjustment first, replacement only once the part itself has genuinely failed. You are told which category the hardware fell into and why before any work proceeds.

Can several compartments in the same panel be done in one visit?

Yes, this is common when a property manager notices several compartments failing around the same time. Each one is still confirmed against the resident or unit it belongs to, and the work moves compartment by compartment. Unless a resident asks otherwise, each lock is keyed separately from the others, and the visit closes with a simple list of which compartment received which lock and keys.
