for tidy homes in Tamarac Estates

Lock work makes brass shavings, sawdust and small screws that roll under furniture. We put a drop sheet down, catch the mess, and vacuum before we go. Homeowners in Tamarac Estates should be able to tell we were there only by the way the door now locks, not by anything left behind. We serve Mono Mills, Rosehill and Speersville as well.

Honest advice about your locks.

  1. A look before a verdict. We inspect the door, frame and lock before suggesting anything. Diagnosing from the driveway is how people end up with parts they did not need.
  2. Two or three real choices. Where there are sensible alternatives we explain them side by side, including the option of doing less than you expected.
  3. The job finished properly. Tested, aligned, cleaned up and demonstrated. We do not consider a lock done until you have turned the key yourself.
  4. Open 24/7, same fees any hour. Call to discuss your business's keys.

    Call and describe the door

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 30 in 100 homes · newer homes
  • About 30% of homes in Caledon were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.Builders often key an entire street to a small number of keyways, which is convenient for them and less so for owners afterwards. In newer areas a locksmith can move a household onto a keyway that is genuinely its own.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 81% of homes in Caledon (2021 Census).A house has its own front door and its own frame, with nothing shared. That means the homeowner decides everything: the cylinder grade, the strike, the finish, whether to add a smart lock. The locksmith lays out the options and the household picks.

Short answers to common questions

How should I look after my lock so it stays reliable?

A little attention twice a year is enough. Follow your lock's own care instructions: many take a puff of dry graphite or PTFE lubricant worked in with the key, some a specified liquid product instead; general-purpose oils collect grit. Retire keys that have worn thin and cut fresh ones from a crisp original or the code. Snug up hinge and strike screws each spring and fall as the door moves with the humidity. A key that starts needing a wiggle is an early warning worth acting on.

Will the lock work again once the piece is out?

In most cases yes, and it is tested in front of you with a key that fits. The inspection after extraction is where the honest answer lives: if the pins, springs and cap are sound and the keyway is clean, the cylinder goes back into service with a fresh key. If wear or damage caused the break, that is explained and a rekey or new cylinder is offered as a separate choice.

Can you make a key for a lock that has none?

Yes. A bit key is cut to the lock rather than copied from another key: the locksmith chooses a blank of the right size and files the bit until it clears the wards and lifts the levers inside your case, testing as they go. A pin-tumbler cylinder on a later lock is decoded or rekeyed and keys cut to it. Bring any loose keys that came with the house, since one may be close enough to serve as a starting pattern.

Can you replace just the cylinder instead of the whole lock body?

Often, yes, particularly with an interchangeable-core system where the core is designed to be swapped without removing the lock body from the door. Where the lock body itself is worn, damaged or of a grade that no longer suits the door's traffic, replacing the cylinder alone would leave the underlying problem in place, so the locksmith says which option actually fits the situation found.
